A hotel that allows guests to stay on top of the Han River Bridge in Seoul with the river and cityscape as a backdrop will open in July. It will be the first hotel on a bridge in the world and will be located in a space that was previously operated as a cafe.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on May 19 that it will convert the “Jiknyeo Café” on the Han River Bridge in Ichon Han River Park into “Observation Hotel” and open it on July 16.
Located on the upper part of the bridge, the hotel has an area of 144.13 square meters and can accommodate up to four people. There are two windows beside the bed and three windows in the living room, including the wall and ceiling. The bathroom also has a window, so you can see the Han River from anywhere in the hotel. Room rates are expected to be around 300,000 to 500,000 won per night.
The existing cafe was underutilized despite the geographical advantage of being able to see the Han River and downtown Seoul on the bridge. The Seoul Metropolitan Government analyzed that this was due to the fact that the cafe operator was selected by the highest bidder and the way the approval of use was granted. In response, the city decided to privatize the hotel and selected Sanha HM, which operated Ramada Hotel and others, in a trustee competition last month.
Ahead of the official opening in July, the hotel will offer a free accommodation voucher to citizens to spend the first night at the new hotel. If a story about appreciation, love, and friendship for family and friends is written in around 1,000 characters by May 22 and submitted to the Seoul Metropolitan Government's website, the winner will be announced at a pre-promotion event on the 28th.
