On June 3, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo announced, “Beginning June 8, we will no longer require mandatory quarantine for people entering the country from overseas, regardless of their vaccination history.”

This day, the prime minister presided over a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters to address COVID-19 at the government office in Seoul and in an opening comment said, “After considering our stable disease control status and the capacity of our medical system, the government will further expand the scope of our return to everyday life and minimize the public’s inconvenience.” Previously, when a person who was not vaccinated entered the country from overseas, she was put in quarantine for seven days.

Prime Minister Han also said that the government would quickly restore all international flights.

He explained, “At present, Incheon International Airport is restricting the number of flights and flying time, so it is not able to flexibly address the demand for flights,” and said, “This has led to a shortage of flights and higher prices, forcing people to bear more inconveniences.” The prime minister continued and said, “Given these circumstances, the government will lift all flight restrictions at Incheon International Airport beginning June 8 and make sure flights can be timely operated according to the demand.”

He also said, “We will reduce the public burden due to immigration procedures and flight regulations, while maintaining mandatory PCR and rapid antigen tests before entering the country and the mandatory PCR test conducted within 3 days of entry to prevent any holes in our disease control system.”

Prime Minister Han said, “The government will not be satisfied with improvements in our disease control status, but carefully maintain a medical response system in case of another outbreak,” and stressed, “We will check to see if there are any unnecessary disease control measures from the eye-level of citizens and continue to seek improvements.”
