President Moon Jae-in and Chairman of North Korea's State Affairs Commission Kim Jong-un will meet in the South's side of Panmunjom on April 27. This inter-Korean summit will be the third following the summits on June 15, 2000 and October 4, 2007.

The two Koreas held a meeting of senior-officials at Tongilgak in the North's side of Panmunjom on March 29 and adopted a joint press release including three items centered on these details.

In the press release, the two Koreas announced, "North and South Korea decided to hold the 2018 inter-Korean summit at the House of Peace in the South Korean side of Panmunjom on April 27 according to the wishes of the two state leaders." Chairman Kim will be the first North Korean leader to cross the Military Demarcation Line and set foot on South Korean soil.

The two Koreas also decided to hold a working-level meeting in the South side of Panmunjom on April 4 to discuss details, such as protocol, security and press coverage of the summit.

The officials agreed to discuss the installation of a hotline between the leaders of North and South Korea in a separate working-level meeting on communication and agreed to set the date and time in the future.

Earlier, through the special envoy, President Moon and Chairman Kim had agreed to install a hotline and speak over the phone before the inter-Korean summit at the end of April.

Reportedly, Cheong Wa Dae is considering a way to connect the line to the phone on President Moon's desk in his office. North Korea is expected to connect the line to the office of the chairman in the Workers' Party of Korea building.

The two Koreas also discussed the agenda, but did not include it in the joint press release. In a press briefing after the meeting, Minister of Unification Cho Myoung-gyon, who was the chief representative of the South Korean delegation said, "We exchanged plenty of our views on the summit agenda. We agreed that it would be best to be specific in announcing the result of our discussions after taking the time to sufficiently discuss the issues, since they would be discussed by the two leaders." Cho said, "We opted to determine these issues in another senior-level talks in April, if necessary."

The chief representative of the North Korean delegation Ri Son-kwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said, "The people's wishes are our agenda."

Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom said, "Now that the date is set, we will do our best to make sure nothing is neglected in preparing for the summit. We hope that the people can come together as one so that the summit can be a breakthrough in establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula."
